LEGO Olivia Rodrigo's Secret Storage (43030): Worth the Hype?

Your wallet is already bracing itself. LEGO has dropped another Olivia Rodrigo set, 43030 Olivia Rodrigo's Secret Storage, and it’s packing over a thousand pieces. This isn't just a toy; it’s a display piece, a collector’s item, and potentially a conversation starter for fans of the pop sensation. The question is, does it justify the space on your shelf and, more importantly, the dent in your bank account?

This set aims to capture the essence of Olivia Rodrigo's career, not just a single concert or album. It’s built around a concert touring case, a flight case, designed to look like the real deal. Think black exterior, grey metal-frame edging, and sturdy rubber tyre feet. It’s an impressive display piece, no doubt. The attention to detail on the case itself is commendable, with stickers referencing her GUTS World Tour and other hidden nods that dedicated fans will surely appreciate.

Inside, the case hides three secret compartments. Pulling on the front handle triggers a neat little mechanism, sliding out the front compartment while simultaneously swinging out the two side ones. It’s a clever bit of engineering, reminiscent of those old spy gadgets. Once extended, all three are accessible from the top. Pushing them back in is just as straightforward, particularly the middle one. It’s this hidden functionality that adds a layer of fun beyond just static display.

The set also includes a minifigure of Olivia herself, decked out in the iconic cheerleading outfit from her "good 4 u" music video. The print is detailed, right down to the dual-moulded black gloves. One face shows a simple smile, the other a playful wink, complete with an array of stickers like hearts and butterflies. While the parts themselves are generic enough for any cheerleading squad, the specific print makes it a must-have for fans.

Now for the accessories. There’s a chunky vinyl record, which feels a bit oversized for the scale. The set also comes with a CRT television, a guitar, a microphone with a stand, a makeup bag, and a few other bits and bobs. These are meant to represent elements from her career, offering plenty of visual interest and opportunities for display arrangements within the case.

However, it’s not all perfect. The vinyl record accessory feels disproportionately large, almost comically so. And while the secret compartments are a neat trick, they are quite small once opened. You’re not fitting much substantial into them, which slightly dampens the "secret storage" aspect. The build itself is solid, but the reliance on stickers for key decorative elements, while common, might irk purists.

For a licensed display set with a unique minifigure and a functional mechanism, the price isn’t outrageous. But given the small size of the secret compartments and the slightly awkward vinyl accessory, it sits in that grey area where you might want to wait for a sale.

LEGO.in and Toycra will likely stock this 4–6 weeks after the global launch. Code ABHINAV12 takes 12% off full-price sets at Toycra, minimum order ₹500.

Ultimately, 43030 Olivia Rodrigo's Secret Storage is a well-executed display piece with a fun hidden feature and a great minifigure for fans. It captures a specific vibe and will undoubtedly appeal to Olivia Rodrigo’s fanbase. For the casual LEGO builder, it might be a bit niche. For the dedicated fan, it’s a solid addition. But for everyone else, the price and the slightly underwhelming secret compartments might mean it’s worth holding out for a discount.

On that bombshell, it's time to say goodbye. I'll see you on the next one. Bubyee.
