LEGO New York City – The Big Apple (21066): Worth ₹14,999?

Your wallet probably just did a double-take. ₹14,999 for a New York City skyline? It’s a lot of green, not the kind you find in Central Park. LEGO has dropped the Architecture New York City – The Big Apple (21066), and while it’s a detailed build, that price tag is going to make even the most dedicated New Yorker pause.

This set packs 1,465 pieces, which is respectable for an Architecture display piece. You’re getting iconic landmarks: the Empire State Building, One World Trade Center, the Brooklyn Bridge, the Statue of Liberty, and the Guggenheim and Metropolitan museums. They’re all presented against a black, starry sky backdrop with a hint of Central Park. There’s also a single minifigure, a yellow taxi, and a printed tile with ‘New York, New York’. It’s designed as minimalist decor, aiming for that sleek, adult-friendly aesthetic.

The build itself sounds like a satisfying way to spend an afternoon. The description mentions a "relaxing activity" and "enhanced building" with 3D instructions via the LEGO Builder app. This is standard for adult-focused sets, and it’s good to see the app integration for progress tracking and digital building guides. The white colour scheme for the buildings against the black background is a classic architectural display choice, designed to stand out without being garish.

However, the price is the elephant in the room. At ₹14,999, this set is pushing the upper limits for what many fans would consider a reasonable purchase for a display model. While it does boast a good piece count and a beloved theme, the value proposition is questionable when compared to other large LEGO sets or even other Architecture sets. The single minifigure feels more like an afterthought than a feature.

At review, it was priced at ₹14,999 on LEGO.in and Toycra. Code ABHINAV12 takes 12% off full-price sets at Toycra, minimum order ₹500. Verdict: WAIT.

Standard disclaimer: rich readers can skip the verdict and just buy it. We'll be over here checking if LEGO.in's HDFC EMI discount makes this hurt less.

When you consider the sheer number of pieces and the detail involved, it’s understandable why LEGO prices it this way. But for the average Indian fan, that’s a significant chunk of change. It’s priced like a major UCS set, but it’s a display skyline. The potential for a 12% discount at Toycra helps, bringing it down to around ₹13,199, which is still steep but more palatable.

Is it worth it? If you’re a die-hard New York City fan, an architecture buff, or someone who just loves collecting large, detailed display pieces, and the price isn't a deterrent, then yes, it’s a well-designed set that will look great on a shelf. But for the casual fan or someone on a tighter budget, it’s hard to justify. The value isn't quite there for the price. You’d be better off waiting for a sale or a significant discount.

On that bombshell, it's time to say goodbye. I'll see you on the next one. Bubyee.

Verdict: WAIT. Good set, but the price will drop.
