LEGO Moana's Adventure Canoe (43270): Worth ₹6,399?

Your wallet is probably breathing a sigh of relief. The LEGO Moana's Adventure Canoe (43270) just sailed into view, and thankfully, it’s not another UCS Star Destroyer threatening your savings. This set, part of the Disney Princess line, brings the spirit of Moana and Pua to your shelves, but at a price point that warrants a second look. Is it a must-have adventure, or a paddle too far?

Let’s talk about what’s inside the box. We get Moana and Heihei minifigures, which is a definite plus for fans of the film. Moana looks decent, capturing her adventurous spirit well. Heihei, the perpetually confused rooster, is present and accounted for, adding a touch of quirky charm. The canoe itself is the main build. It’s a colourful, functional-looking vessel, complete with a small island structure that houses a treasure chest and a bed of flowers. The build is straightforward, leaning towards the younger demographic, which is expected given its theme. It’s not overly complex, making it accessible for kids and a quick, satisfying build for adults.

The play features are standard for this line. The canoe can actually float, which is a fun gimmick, though I suspect most adult collectors won’t be testing its seaworthiness in the bathtub. The island has a few small buildable accessories, like the treasure chest, which contains some fun printed elements. The overall aesthetic is bright and cheerful, very much in line with the Disney aesthetic. It captures the essence of the film’s vibrant world.

However, the elephant in the room, or rather, the canoe on the water, is the price. At ₹6,399 from MyBrickHouse, this set feels a bit steep for what you get. You’re paying for the Disney license, which is always a premium, but the piece count and the complexity of the build don’t quite justify the cost for many. It’s a relatively small set in terms of brick volume. Comparing it to other sets in the same price bracket, you could often get much larger, more intricate builds, or even a couple of smaller, more substantial sets. The inclusion of two minifigures, while good, doesn’t entirely offset the perceived value deficit.

For dedicated Disney Princess fans, especially those who adore Moana, the minifigures might be enough to warrant a purchase. The canoe is a nice display piece, and the ability to float adds a playability factor that younger builders will appreciate. But if you’re a general LEGO fan looking for the best bang for your buck, this isn’t it. The value proposition here is questionable. It feels like a set designed primarily for play and display by young fans, rather than a collector-focused item.

In India, Moana's Adventure Canoe (43270) is listed at ₹6,399 on MyBrickHouse and ₹6,999 on Toycra. Code ABHINAV12 takes 12% off full-price sets at Toycra, minimum order ₹500. That’s enough to buy about 10kg of good quality Alphonso mangoes during peak season, or fund your monthly Netflix subscription for nearly a year. MyBrickHouse and Toycra will likely have this in stock, but keep an eye out for potential discounts, especially on MyBrickHouse.

Ultimately, the LEGO Moana's Adventure Canoe (43270) is a charming set with appealing minifigures and a fun, floatable canoe. It captures the spirit of the movie well and offers good playability for its target audience. However, the high price point for the number of pieces and the overall build complexity makes it difficult to recommend wholeheartedly for adult collectors or those on a tighter budget. If Moana is your absolute favourite, or if you find it on a significant sale, it might be worth considering. At ₹6,399 via MyBrickHouse, you're actually below Toycra's ₹6,999 list price — a discount, not a premium. This is a reasonable price for Moana fans and casual builders alike.

Keep building, keep dreaming... And don't let your wallet see your LEGO wishlist.
