LEGO Fast & Furious Dodge Charger R/T (42231): Worth ₹15,999?

Fifteen thousand, nine hundred and ninety-nine rupees. Let that number sit for a second before we talk about the LEGO Fast & Furious Dodge Charger R/T. That’s a lot of plastic for a car that doesn’t even have working doors.

LEGO has finally dropped the Fast & Furious Dodge Charger R/T (42231), a set that’s been rumoured for a while. As a fan of the franchise, I was hyped. As a fan of my bank balance, I’m… less so. This isn’t a cheap set by any stretch. It’s a big, detailed model, sure, but the price point is definitely going to make some people pause.

Let’s talk about the build. It’s a Technic build, which means you’re getting a lot of intricate internal mechanisms. This isn't a simple snap-together affair. The Charger R/T is known for its powerful V8 engine, and LEGO has tried to replicate that here. You’ll spend a good chunk of time assembling the engine, the moving pistons, the driveshaft, and all the other mechanical bits that make this car tick. It’s satisfying, in a complex, sometimes frustrating, way. If you enjoy Technic and the engineering side of LEGO, you’ll probably get a kick out of this.

The exterior is where things get interesting. The iconic curves of the 1970 Dodge Charger R/T are mostly captured well. The aggressive front end, the wide stance – it looks the part. LEGO has included plenty of stickers to add those signature details, which is a double-edged sword. They add authenticity, but applying them perfectly can be a headache, and the overall look can sometimes feel a bit too reliant on them. The colour scheme, that deep black with subtle grey accents, is classic.

However, the lack of opening doors is a real miss for a car model at this price. For ₹15,999, I’d expect to be able to open the doors, maybe even the hood and trunk. It feels like a missed opportunity to add playability and display value. It’s a static display piece, and while it’s a good one, it could have been great.

The size is substantial. It’s a hefty model once completed, sitting proudly on a display stand. It’s definitely a conversation starter. But is it enough to justify the price? That’s the million-dollar question, or rather, the ₹15,999 question. Compared to other large-scale vehicle sets, it feels a bit light on features for the money. You’re paying a premium for the Fast & Furious license and the detail in the Technic engine.

The Fast & Furious franchise is all about action, speed, and iconic cars. This set captures the visual essence of Dom Toretto’s Charger, but it lacks some of the interactive elements that would truly elevate it. It’s a solid build for Technic fans and Fast & Furious devotees, but the price tag and the missing functional features mean it’s not an instant buy for everyone. I’d recommend waiting for a sale or a discount if you’re on the fence. There are other large-scale LEGO vehicles that offer more for a similar or even lower price.

In India, the LEGO Fast & Furious Dodge Charger R/T (42231) is available for ₹15,999 at both MyBrickHouse and Toycra. That's the price of a decent mid-range smartphone or enough for about 300 large plates of butter chicken. MyBrickHouse | Toycra. Code ABHINAV12 takes 12% off full-price sets at Toycra, minimum order ₹500.

It’s a good set, don't get me wrong. The detail is there, the build is complex, and it looks great on a shelf. But for ₹15,999, I expected a bit more bang for my buck. Maybe opening doors, or a more engaging build beyond the engine. If you’re a die-hard fan and the price doesn’t faze you, go for it. For everyone else, I’d say wait this one out.

Keep building, keep dreaming... And don't let your wallet see your LEGO wishlist.

Verdict: WAIT. Good set, but the price will drop.

Standard disclaimer: rich readers can skip the verdict and just buy it. We'll be over here checking if MyBrickHouse has an EMI option.

On that bombshell, bubyee.
